This monthly group explores plays, but as the name suggests we want to do more than simply read them aloud.
We’ll also discuss ideas and themes, select scenes and workshop them - play with the language and experiment with characterization.
The choice of plays depends on us and will involve classic, modern, and contemporary pieces (where possible) by as wide a variety of writers as possible.
No prior knowledge of theatre is necessary, though if you have it that is good. What is necessary is a willingness to try things out, a desire to reconnect with the spoken word, an openness to shift a few boundaries, and inclination to move it and shake it, all in a very safe and supportive environment. The sessions are great fun and there is a lot of laughter.
Plays read so far: Bedroom Farce Alan Ayckbourn Arms and the Man G. B. Shaw Antigone Jean Anouilh Travesties Tom Stoppard Inspector Hound Tom Stoppard
Venue: The Community Room, Kings Court Time: 10-12 3rd Friday Leadership is shared, with Jill as "Leader" and Jean as "Admin".
Cost: The venue is free. There will be a cost of approximately 50p per person per script on loan from the library, and we shall also ask for contributions for refreshments.
