Whilst our regular walks are normally in the Peak District, we also travel further afield: Members of the Southwell U3A Peak Walking Groups enjoy their annual trip to the Cumbrian Fells, and some pictures in the slide show below include photos from one such trip: Based in Keswick the group of fourteen walked the Borrowdale fells taking in some of Wainwright’s favourites: Catbells, Castle Crag, and the remote fell around Ulscarf. Take a look at the slideshow of photos from that trip & from other walks below

There are three groups that walk once a month in the Peak District. Each group is kept to a limit of approximately 15 so that there are usually about 10 members on each walk. This is to ensure safety as we often walk in challenging terrain.
The walks are usually between 9 and 13 miles in length and can involve substantial ascent. Boots, waterproof clothing, and a rucksack are essential. As journey times are usually over an hour (and sometimes as much as 1 hour 45 mins) each way, this is a full days outing. Transport is by members own cars and many choose to car share. In order to extend members experience, each member of the group is required, either individually or with a buddy, to plan and organise at least one walk each year. Members are supported in this activity by the group leader who is an experienced mountain walk leader. Additionally, short map reading courses are organised from time to time. In the last two years, members experience has been further extended by holding a three day walking break in the Lake District. Regular walk dates are :- Group 1 - 4th Wednesday, Group 2 - 1st Wednesday, Group 3 - 4th Thursday.
