Purpose This Walking Group is being established, to compliment the excellent variety of existing Groups in the Southwell u3a. The aim of the Group will be to undertake good length walks in varying terrains but with an emphasis on having a lunch break at a tea room or pub en route. We have chosen the 3rd Thursday in each month intentionally, as there are only a handful of other Groups (and no other walking groups!) meeting on that day. We hope that this makes the Group accessible to those who struggle to get to the other walking groups. We will give priority to those who are not members of other walking Groups.
Activity description Dates: 3rd Thursday of the month (Jan – Nov), 11 walks per year Terrain: We aim to be terrain agnostic and hope to plan walks in a variety of areas in peaks or valleys, flat or hilly, wet or dry! Route Leaders: Members will take turns planning, undertaking a recce and then leading the walk. Members can buddy up if they feel more comfortable planning and recceing the walks with another person.
Walking experience & equipment Members will need to have a good level of fitness. We can expect to encounter varying quality footpaths, stiles and no doubt mud and wet at times. It will be essential that members have good outdoor gear, including walking boots as well as warm and wet weather clothing. In addition, members should carry water and snacks, sun cream, first aid kit (including their own medication!), torch and emergency blanket. Additional useful kit might include walking poles and/or gaiters.
