To provide an opportunity to play a relaxed, informal, social game of Croquet.
To introduce those who have never played Croquet to the game.
Where and when: Fiskerton-cum-Morton, at the Arthur Radford Sports Ground, Cooks Lane, NG25 0XQ We have use of three croquet lawns normally played on by the Southwell Croquet Club, a well-equipped and friendly club that are able to host small groups of external players such as ourselves.
For Summer 2023, we met on the 2nd Monday of the month, from 2pm to 4pm, summer only. Arrival from 1.45 to start playing at 2.00 2023 Dates: Mondays: 12 June, 10 July, 14 August, 11 Sept, (and weather permitting 9 Oct)
How the group works: The group provides an opportunity to learn and play Croquet. The aim is to have fun playing the game, it is not all about winning! Equipment is provided within the charge of £8 per session, payable each session.
As a newly formed group (May 2023) we soon had a waiting list, as only 12 of us can play at a time. However, we think that some of us will want to join the regular Croquet club at the ground, making room for folk on the waiting list and we were keen to make use of all our available 12 player spaces, and assure members of a warm welcome. We brought our own mug for refreshments, and only one "rule" that flat soled shoes must be worn - no heels of any sort allowed.
UPDATE: The end of our first season came so quickly! The second Monday in October '23 was a glorious sunny afternoon for our final croquet group meeting of the year. It was an afternoon of fun and laughter, plus the chance to have a competition against each other. There were many challenges and much debate about the appropriate shots needed to be attempted in order to score hoops. Everyone played well, and we all noted our improvement in play and tactics. During our tea and biscuits break it was a unanimous decision to commit to playing in 2024. The lawns need to rest and have treatment over the winter. So, weather permitting, hopefully the start for our Croquet group will be on the second Monday afternoon in April 2024. Would you like to join us next year? There are limited places, and it is "first come, first on the list" Information about the group can be obtained from the group leader, Elaine Maiden My contact details are on the Group Leaders page.
