Southwell U3A has several volunteering opportunities: Discuss with Jean Hogg (Chair), or email her These include: - Helping at the monthly meetings as a "Welcomer", "Refreshments" and "Technical": The latter does not need to be very technical - physically able to lift speakers, stands, tables and cables for others do do the more complicated stuff! Contact via Webmaster - Helping "Newsline" as an assistant editor, proof-reader or "the person who asks for contributions" - We have a vacancy for "Group Coordinator's Assistant" - Several other opportunities are available, and Brian will normally know the latest needs
We are aware of other volunteering opportunities in and around Southwell: These are not "U3A" activities, so are not promoted/verified/accredited by our Committee - we trust you to ask the right questions! These include:
Willing to help a refugee? We know of several refugees who have relatively recently arrived from The Ukraine, Syria, Afghanistan and elsewhere, have been found homes in our area but need and appreciate all sorts of help. Members already helping these individuals and families comment just how remarkably personally fulfilling they find this. There is currently a need for "befrienders", occasional help for transport, and a need for anyone fluent in English simply willing to spend time to meet and chat. Many are learning English via "ESOL" courses at local colleges, but would really appreciate time with native English speakers to help improve their written and spoken English. One teenager would really appreciate informal help with his English GCSE homework. Contact via Webmasteror phone 07946 398349.
