The aims of the Film Appreciation Group are to watch mostly challenging, sometimes radical films, followed by the opportunity to discuss and analyse the film as an art form. We do occasionally see a mainstream popular film.
We meet to discuss the selected film between 3.00pm – 5.00pm on the second Wednesday of the month in a member's home.
A series of questions are used to provide us with a loose framework to structure our discussion. These can can be seen by clicking here.
The films seen since the group began, and the star rating the group has awarded to each, are listed here: Films from January 2008 to July 2021: click here Films from August 2021 to December 2023: click here Films from January 2024 onwards: click here At the end of each meeting the group selects a film for the following month from the programme at the Broadway Cinema in Nottingham. Individual group members make their own arrangements to watch the film, either on their own or with other group members.
Our group is currently full, but we have recently started an extra group, "Film Extra", such was the demand. The Film Extra Group still has some vacancies. Please contact the Group Leader for "Film Extra" if you would like to join them. If you are happy to wait to join our group (possibly for a few months), please contact our Group Leader who will happily pop you onto our waiting list and answer any other questions you may have.
