The Group normally meets at 10.30am on the first Friday of each month at Southwell Library. At each meeting there is an illustrated talk and opportunities for discussion. Members are also provided with primary source materials connected to the topics being studied.
Members do not need any specific previous historical knowledge and whether they spend time working out what can be deduced from the primary sources or on follow-up reading is entirely optional.
In 2020 members began studying International Relations: 1919 - 39 and 1945 - 91
Due to the pandemic in April 2020 the group moved on to Zoom. As some members decided not to use Zoom, we decided to postpone further sessions on International Relations until we could all meet in the Library. Instead meetings have been based on one-off presentations on a variety of topics - including "Romano-British Towns", "The Dark Ages in England", "The American Revolution", "Martin Luther" and "The History of Non-'white' People in Britain". The group currently meets every fourth Friday at 11.00.
