A message from our Group Leader, David (contact details in Members' Section)
It was a very encouraging 2023 for our group. I would not have predicted the leap forwards that we have had since the challenges of the lock down. Climbing is good for flexibility, strength and general fitness, as well as involving teamwork and being a sociable activity. We have enjoyed great interest from u3a members, resulting in a doubling of numbers and an additional weekly climbing session. We can now climb the walls at noon on Mondays and 10am Wednesdays every week, and if needed can have professional coaching on our Monday sessions.
The climbing centre at Nottingham changed hands and the new owner has invested in improvements which have given us more variety and challenging routes with on hand climbing centre coaches available for training and advice.
Meanwhile, a new climbing centre has also opened in the newly built YMCA at Newark which has Olympic standard climbing walls high enough to satisfy anyone’s appetite for heights, overhangs etc...
New members have been improving very quickly which is great to see. Let’s hope 2024 is as successful and enjoyable. If anyone is interested in joining us or just wants to come to watch or try a session to see if they want to join us then please get in touch. New members are always welcomed and encouraged. Induction is given by the Climbing Centre and is a requirement before anyone can use the wall. Equipment is available for hire and use of safety equipment is also mandatory. As you progress, free professional coaching is also available.
