Kurling This is your opportunity to join one of our newest groups, Kurling with a 'K', which has been adapted from the original sport held on ice. It is played indoors, by individuals or teams, on any large flat smooth surface. The object of the game is to get your 'stone' closest to the 'bull'. Stones, made from a strong compound, run on steel ball bearings that are positioned underneath. If you have difficulty bending, or need to be seated, then pushers can be used to move the stones. The game can be played by all ages and abilities, and is already popular with many other u3a groups who report back about the laughs they have together. From July 2024 we have a group of a dozen members interested and equipment purchased. If you are simply curious, here is another local u3a that has such a group: www.hucknallu3a.org.uk/kurling It is becoming very popular: The Ashfield group is over-subscribed: www.ashfieldu3a.org.uk/kurling.htm Further afield: www.u3ahighbridge.org.uk/groupinfo/kurling-group/ If you are interested in joining us then please contact Elaine Maiden at [email protected] or use the Contact Us link. |
The sessions started on 3 October 2024 and will be held on the first Thursday in every month, 1400 - 1600 hours at Thurgarton Village Hall, which has loads of parking. To cover the cost of hall hire there will be a charge of £10 for five sessions payable in full when you join. Please arrive a little early to register and pay. This activity is suitable for all abilities/disabilities, but please wear flat non-slip footwear. Group Leader: Ann Powers Coaches: Beryl Northcote and Elaine Maiden |
