Information about  our
U3A Monthly Meetings

 Updated 2-Jan-2023=RL

We have resumed face to face monthly meetings: See below for our Covid Precautions, which remain under review.
  • We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at Southwell Leisure Centre, doors opening at 9.30 for a 10am short business section, followed by a speaker to around 11.30am.
  • There is normally a membership table, in case you wish to join,  have any renewal or other queries, and so that you can pay your subscription when due.
  • We provide refreshments at the interval, and recommend you bring your own mug to avoid waste.
  • Please enter by the fire-doors next to the all-weather pitch, not via the main leisure centre entrance.
  • There is normally an "Interest Groups" table in case you want to learn more about any of these, need to update your own group's details with our Groups Coordinator, or are interested in forming a new group.
  • New members are very welcome, so do bring along any non-member friends or partners for a free taster session.
  • If you are not yet a member, you are welcome to visit and try us out - please explain to our "Welcomers" that you are doing this and they will support!  Prospective members may attend two such meetings as a visitor.
  • Click here to see a location map.

Covid Arrangements for Face to Face Meetings:

Social distancing and the wearing of masks is still encouraged but will be at members’ own discretion, following the lifting of Covid restrictions. Ventilation is optimised but not at the expense of inducing hypothermia!

Below are the
Covid arrangements in the event  that the risk increases for face-to-face meetings: As always, we cannot make the event Covid-secure, just Covid- conscious, and so members must make their own assessments and decisions about attending, dependent on their personal situations.

  1. We expect that you have been doubly vaccinated and had a booster vaccination (if you qualify), but if you have not, if possible please take a lateral flow test before attending the meeting and do not attend if the result is positive.
  2. Please enter by the fire doors to the Sports Hall, and not by the main Leisure Centre.
  3. If it is raining and there is a queue please wait in your car until the queue reduces.
  4. Members should wear face masks when entering and whilst queuing or moving about the hall. The wearing of masks whilst seated will be at members’ own discretion. Performers will not be required to wear masks during their performances but the audience will be asked to wear masks during any community singing.
  5. The seats will be arranged again in a socially distanced manner, both in pairs and singly.
  6. Refreshments will be served (see above) but you are welcome to bring your own drink with you if you prefer, and particularly welcome to bring your own mug/cup.
  7. If you need to use the toilets, please maintain social distancing, and follow the Leisure Centre guidelines.

Do not attend if you:
  1. have recently tested positive for COVID
  2. have been advised to isolate via the NHS Test and Trace system.
  3. have been in close contact with someone who has been confirmed to have COVID
  4. are presenting with COVID symptoms, such as loss of smell and taste, elevated temperature, sore throat, sniffles, or continuous cough.
For all face to face meetings, whilst the risks of COVID-19 remain, all members should click to read through the risk assessment and also read the following notes:

1. We expect that you have been doubly vaccinated but if you have not, please take a lateral flow test before attending the meeting and do not attend if the result is positive.

2. Please enter by the fire doors to the Sports Hall, and not by the main Leisure Centre entrance.

3. Please wear a face mask when you enter and keep it on until you are seated.

4. Please go straight to a seat and do not move about socialising with others while in the hall, but please feel free to socialise when you are outside.

5. The seats will be arranged in singles and pairs.  The pairs are intended for couples so if you have come singly, please sit on a single seat.

6. Please bring hand gel with you and use it before you enter and after you leave the building.

7. No refreshments will be served but you are welcome to bring your own drink with you.

8. There will be no water available, so please bring your own.

9. Please maintain social distancing while inside.

10. We have a limited capacity of 140 people in the hall to ensure social distancing. In the event that there are more than 140 people attending, it is possible that some people may need to be turned away. We very much hope this does not occur and if it does happen please be assured this will be reviewed for future meetings.

We ask you to follow these guidelines so that everyone is as safe as possible, but above all, please enjoy the meeting and help us to return back to normal as soon as we can.
