Southwell Wine Interest Group (SWIG)

Southwell Wine Interest Group (SWIG)

The Wine Interest Group (S.W.I.G) is an informal Wine Group for people who enjoy wine and would like to learn a little bit more about the subject.
We take it in turns to do a presentation and taste four different wines, we then discuss what we can smell and taste in each wine.  We either take a specific grape or country on which to do the presentation.  We have also visited a vineyard to see wine being made.
We also hold two social events in the year where we have a meal with a different wine with each course.
The group meets on the fourth Monday in the month at 7.00 p.m. in Southwell.

SWIG - Summer Lunch on 1st August 2021

We have shared the wines and recipes from our 5 course meal at the link below. Everyone enjoyed the wines and the food so we can certainly recommend them to anyone who wants to try them out.

SWIG wine tasting during the Coronavirus Lockdown on 13 April 2020

We are all tasting individual wines and giving the other members of the group the benefit of our experiences/enjoyment. Makes for a good evening and nice to talk about something other than the lockdown!

SWIG Christmas lunch 2019

A wonderfully convivial afternoon, hosted by Mary & Peter. And the added bonus of a reverse raffle put together by Lynn where everyone who thought they had won a prize then seemed to lose it, only to sometimes get it back again. Great fun!

The Wine Lovers Group & SWIG get together at Ann et Vin

Members of both groups had an enjoyable evening on 31st July 2019  trying to guess the 8 wines we tasted before supper followed by a wine quiz.. Not sure any of us were very successful in getting the wines right, but we had great fun trying!  Thanks are due to Jackie Pitcher from the Wine Lovers Group for organising the event..

Wine Lovers Group

As out title suggests, we are Lovers of the World’s Wines. At our meetings our pattern is for each member to present to the group in turn, either their favourite choices, or wines that they have newly discovered. We also inform where they were purchased, and contradictions found in prices. Each wine is tasted and compared with a similar wine grape from perhaps a different region. We hope to attend professional wine tastings in the future, and also visit a vineyard, to further our knowledge.
We currently meet at the Court House at 2.15 pm on the first Tuesday of the month.
