Table Tennis

A chance to play (or learn to play) table tennis at Southwell Leisure Centre. We play table tennis for fun and welcome people of all abilities. If you would like to join us just come along and you will be made very welcome.

We meet in the Squash Courts of the Leisure Centre between 1 pm and 3pm most Mondays. The first session in 2020 is on Monday 6th January.

The cost is £3.00 per person per session attended to cover the cost of the room hire.
We are a relaxed and welcoming social group who enjoy playing table tennis. We usually play doubles table tennis and while we have competitive games our standard is very modest.

We are on the look out for new members. You are very welcome to come and taste a couple of sessions at no cost prior to making a commitment to join our group.  We can even provide you with a bat!

You are welcome to contact Malcolm, our Group Leader, for more details.  If you are not already a member of Southwell U3A you can do that by making your request via the CONTACT US page of this website.

You might be interested to know that quite a lot of research has been conducted about table tennis and the over 60s, most especially by King's College, London.

There is evidence to show the game assists blood flow to the brain and stimulates the Hippocampus.  It is argued this holds back the symptoms of Alzheimers.

Certainly it is a physical exercise which enhances your attention span and the use of visual and spatial skills.  It also helps maintain your hand to eye co-ordination, dexterity and balance.

So all in all it's good for you and fun in the process.

We hear it can even be played sitting down.  We must try that sometime!
